Volunteering
North Staffs Mind employs volunteers in various capacities within the
agency. If you want to have more detail than we set out below, then please
contact the relevant section of the organisation by phone (reception staff
will put you through if you explain what you are interested in).
We recognise that people volunteer for all sorts of reasons - as a way of
gaining skills and experience; to enhance employment prospects; to give
something back to the community; to feel valued and involved in worthwhile
activities. Whatever your reason we welcome applications, and suggest you
read the volunteer role descriptions to see which area suits you best.
Often people volunteer with North Staffs Mind because they themselves have experienced
poor mental health in their lives, or know someone who has, and want to
use that experience to make a difference. We welcome applicants with
personal experience of mental distress. We do have to have selection
procedures and all volunteers will need to have a Criminal Records Check
done before we can let you begin work with us.
Community Support Services welcomes volunteers as befrienders/ mentors and
also as helpers at adult social support groups. We provide in house
training and support for these roles, and recruit regularly. No formal
qualifications are needed, just a genuine interest and liking for people.
Counselling is a more formal role and we can only accept trainees and
volunteers who are qualified ( or in training ) at Diploma/ Masters Level
in Counselling. For more details see the section under "Adult counselling"
and the job description under the Volunteering section of the website. |
